USATF continues to provide LIVE coverage of the 2010 Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Click here for blog coverage, and here for live results. If you missed the women’s 3,000 meter final last night then you missed one of the most exciting races of 2010. Renee Metivier Ballie took it out hard from the gun with a “catch me if you can” kick to her stride. The rest of the women’s field lagged behind with Rowbury leading the charge. Ballie strided comfortably ahead, gaining a 14 second gap on the field with just four laps to go. Not content to let the race slip away from them, Shannon Rowbury and Sarah Hall switched gears and went after Ballie. With one lap to go, they melted Ballie’s lead to four seconds, and coming around the final turn, the three women almost ran stride-for-stride. With the crowd riled up and cheering Ballie to hang on, Ballie crossed the finish line just 2/100ths of a second over Hall, 9:14.90 to 9:14.92. Rowbury finished in third in 9:15.41. Rounding out the rest of the field were the following women:
