Moonlit 2000s
This morning I did a track workout of 3x2000 meters in the moonlight. The moon was nearly full and eerily lit up the whole track (or at least it seemed as such). It was pretty neat. I was actually on the track by myself. O couldn't join me this morning because he had a late night of homework and the usual joggers weren't out either. Not quite sure why, but I thoroughly enjoyed my moonlit workout and having the whole track to myself. :)
I was to run the 2000s at 6:20 pace (7:55 goal time) with a 3 minute rest between intervals. I warmed up with 30 minutes of easy jogging, some strides and then ran 7:53, 7:53 and 7:53. How about that for consistency! Of course with my impaired sense of pace I ran each 7:53 differently. For the first I was right on for the first 4 splits and then ran a :93 for the last 400 instead of a :95. For the middle interval I ran the first 200 2 seconds too fast and just kept it that way for the remaining laps. And for the last one I ran too slow at the start (and finish) and ran laps 3 and 4 faster. Regardless, I accomplished what I set out to do so I'll take it!
I felt relatively good considering I was still a little on the sore/tired side from Saturday's long run. 6:20 pace is not, by any means, a walk in the park, but it seems "comfortable" to the point that I don't have to kill myself to run it.
As I was finishing my last interval and changing back into my training shoes an unfamiliar car pulled up to the track. A man got out and started jogging. I hadn't seen him before; not one of the usual suspects anyway. He struck up a conversation with me and I actually jogged about a mile of my cooldown with him. He had run several marathons when he was younger (I judged him to be in his late 50s, early 60s?) and was very interested to hear about my training, racing, etc... He was very philosophical for 5:30 in the morning, talking about the "marathon of life" and other related topics. I really enjoyed his company though. Perhaps I'll see him again sometime. :)
I cooled down for 16 minutes for a total of about 9.5 miles for the day. I only have one more "serious" track workout before Columbus which saddens me a little. I really enjoy track work, although I'm not exactly certain why. I will hopefully find a training plan for Boston with some track work, but I also know training for a spring marathon in this area usually doesn't include much action on the track. My experience from training for last April's Cleveland Marathon was that the track was under snow for about 3 of the 4 months I trained. :)

I think the Steeler game ending at 11:45pm had something to do with me not answering the bell at 4:30, too!!!!
