I got off the train across from Franklin Field a couple of hours ago, and could already hear the roar of the Penn Relays crowd as I lugged my bag up the stairs and out of the station. Penn Relays is to Philadelphia as the Boston Marathon is to Boston. It's fun to go to events which shut down part of the city for the duration, are are part of the local culture. Even if you're not a runner, you know about the event.
If you can't make it to Philadelphia this weekend, you can at least watch some of the meet on TV. NBC is scheduled to air an hour of coverage on Sunday, April 30 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. ET. We don't promise they'll show any coverage of distance night or even distance relays (though we can hope), but there should be some good races nonetheless.
Update: Apparently the first airing of the Penn Relays show was interrupted, and it will therefore air on NBC again on Sunday, May 21 at noon (ET). Thanks to Walt Murphy for indirectly passing this information along.
