This weekend's IAAF World Cup served as the unofficial end to the track season, and several of the U.S. representatives ended their season on a high note. Kara Goucher and Matt Tegenkamp, both of whom have had breakthrough seasons in 2006, finished third in their respective events. Tegenkamp's 13:36.83 5,000 meters put him just 1.53 seconds behind Qatar's Saif Saaeed Shaheen. Goucher set a new personal best in the 3,000 meters (8:41.42), a race that was won by Meseret Defar in a championship record 8:33.78.
Gabe Jennings finished fourth (3:55.09) in a tactical 1,500 which was won by Kenya's Alex Kipchirchir in 3:52.60. Lauren Fleshman (5,000m, 15:17.65) and Adam Goucher (3,000m 7:48.15) finished fifth in their events. The other U.S. middle and long distance representatives were Khadevis Robinson (6th, 800m, 1:46.45), Lisa Galaviz (7th, steeplechase, 9:49.32), and Steve Slattery (7th, steeplechase, 8:43.15).
