My team and staff wish to take this opportunity to thank all the student-athletes and coaches who have been extremely supportive during this difficult time after the shootings here at Virginia Tech on April 16th. The response from around the country and even from other countries has been overwhelming. We have received over 300 cards and e-mails from cross country and track and field teams and coaches. I am still in the process of answering each individual e-mail and card and will soon finish that task.
I want to send out a special thanks to our sister institutions in the ACC, who went way above the call of duty in their support of our students and coaches at the ACC Championship meet on April 19-21, 2007.
This really demonstrated something positive to our program and our university, knowing that we were not in this recovery process alone.
Finally, there is a great lesson that I have learned through this terrible event. I want to thank my student-athletes and coaches for proving to me, that no matter what happens in our lives, everyone can come together and rise up to achieve great things- Not just in athletics, but in our lives.
Again, our team and staff thanks all of you from the bottom of our hearts.
Sincerely,
Dave Cianelli
