At today's KBC Nacht Van De Atletiek (Night of Athletics) meet in Heusden, Belgium, U.S. middle-distance and distance runners produced one American record and 11 personal bests. Lisa Galaviz finished fourth in the steeplechase, but set a new American record and a 10-plus second personal best of 9:28.75. Galaviz broke Briana Shook's three-year-old record of 9:29.32.
Alan Webb, who broke the American record in the mile last week, continued his amazing season with a win and a big personal best in the 800. Webb's time of 1:43.84 smashed his PR (set earlier this season) by 1.96 seconds. Webb's time makes him the eighth-fastest U.S. performer of all time. In the same race, Jonathan Johnson finished fourth in a PR of 1:44.69.
In the women's 1,500, Erin Donohue (4:05.55 PR), Shalane Flanagan (4:06.24), and Amy Mortimer (4:07.23) swept the top three places, and U.S. athletes took five of the top six spots.
Brian Olinger finished 11th in the steeplechase in a PR of 8:19.29. Aaron Aguayo finished just behind (12th, 8:20.34) and earned the World Championships "A" standard. While Aguayo had already punched his ticket to Osaka, Aguayo's time will enable Tom Brooks (who finished 17th in 8:30.65) to represent the U.S. at the World Championships as well. Each country can only send one qualifier per event who has only met the "B" standard, and now that the top two trials finishers (Josh McAdams and Aguayo) have the "A" standard, Brooks can go with the "B" standard.
The men's 5,000 was also a big race for the U.S. as Chris Solinsky (fourth, 13:12.24) took more than 15 seconds off of his PR. Bolota Asmerom shaved more than 19 seconds off his previous personal best in finishing eighth (13:15.16). Ian Dobson won the "B" race in 13:18.87, and Jonathon Riley finished second in a slight PR of 13:19.92. Sean Graham finished sixth in a new PR of 13:23.50
Matt Tegenkamp finished sixth in the 1,500 in 3:36.48.

Jen Rhines' runner-up finish (8:35.03) and Shalane Flanagan's fourth-place finish (8:35.34) in today's 3,000 meter race at the Herculis meeting in Monaco move them to #3 and #4, respectively, on the U.S. all-time performers list.
Mary Slaney has the top seven U.S. marks of all time, including her American record of 8:25.83 set in 1985. Libbie Hickman occupies the #2 spot on the performers list with an 8:35.02 from 2000. Rhines and Flanagan come immediately after Hickman both on the performers and performances list, and their times are the ninth and 10th fastest U.S. performances of all time.
Deena Kastor (seventh, 8:44.45) and Michelle Sikes (eighth, 8:44.73) also ran well. Kastor wasn't far off her PR of 8:42.59, which she set in 2000, and the time was a PR for Sikes.
Although Flanagan's time was an outdoor PR, her indoor PR of 8:33.25, which is the indoor American record, is slightly faster.

Boston, Mass. - Registration for the seventh annual B.A.A. Half Marathon presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund will open on Wednesday, July 18 at 9:00 a.m. This year's race will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2007 (Columbus Day weekend) and begins at 8:00 a.m.
Athletes may register online or download a PDF of the application at www.baa.org. The registration fee is $45 and the field will be limited to 4,500 runners. The event has grown quickly since its inception in 2001, reaching its field size limit in each of the past six years, with last year's 4,500-runner field filling in just a few weeks.
An elite field of professional runners vying for a share of the $30,000 prize purse and a full slate of age group awards have helped make the B.A.A. Half Marathon one of the most attractive events on any runner's fall schedule. Past champions have included Marie Davenport, Lornah Kiplagat and Samuel Ndereba, while numerous Olympians and road racing stars such as Jen Rhines, Valentina Yegorova, John Kagwe, Timothy Cherigat, and Mark Carroll have also participated.
The B.A.A. Half Marathon course starts and finishes at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston's Back Bay Fens neighborhood. The route encompasses much of Boston's famed Emerald Necklace park system, proceeding along the Riverway, past Jamaica Pond and the Arborway, and into Franklin Park before reversing course. A portion of each participant's entry fee is donated to the Emerald Necklace Conservancy and is directed toward the enhancement and maintenance of the park system.
Other sponsors of the B.A.A. Half Marathon include adidas, Belmont Springs Water, Gatorade, Long's Jewelers, and PowerBar. For more information about the B.A.A. Half Marathon presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund, please visit www.baa.org or www.jimmyfund.org/eve/event/half-marathon/.

Boston, Mass. - Official finishers' certificates and copies of the Boston Marathon Racers' Record Book, containing the official results of the 111th running of the Boston Marathon, were mailed to all 2007 participants this week.
Following the adjudication of results, there were 20,338 official finishers for the 2007 Boston Marathon, the second-highest total in event history, behind only the 100th running in 1996 which boasted 35,868 finishers. In total, based on the adjudication process, 17 individuals were removed from the 2007 Boston Marathon results and seven were added.
The most notable change to the results was the removal of seventh-place female Lyubov Denisova (RUS) as a result of a positive out-of-competition drug test. Denisova was found to have an elevated testosterone level and tested positive for Prostanozol in a test conducted on March 20, 2007. Denisova now faces a two-year ban from competition, and all results posted after the test have been invalidated.
Athletes who finished behind Denisova were moved up one place in the final standings, and prize money was reallocated based on the new results. The adjusted women's top finishers are as follows:
Place Athlete Time Prize Money
1. Lidiya Grigoryeva (RUS) 2:29:18 $100,000
2. Jelena Prokopcuka (LAT) 2:29:58 $40,000

16. Dot McMahan (USA) 2:43:56 $1,000*

Among the participants in this year's race were representatives from 21 official Boston Marathon charities. In total, these runners raised a record $10 million for area charities.
The 112th Boston Marathon is scheduled for April 21, 2008. Once again the race will feature a two-wave start, with the first 10,000 runners beginning at 10:00 a.m., and the remainder of the field at 10:30 a.m.
Registration for the 2008 Boston Marathon will begin on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. (EST) at www.baa.org.
